argh. i think for all the performances at moonfest are... not that good as i expected it to be. i think we really are complacent, to the extent that we are moving backwards, we are 'deproving'. i know i'm not playing at top form, not playing to MY own expectations. also, many of the drummers are performing below my expectations. even though i feel that tonight's performance is the best one so far, i still dont think its up to the standard. (are my expectations too high?)

actually i dont think my expectations are high at all. i just want the whole performance to be smooth and steady, tempo wise. that is all i ask for, what does good tempo do? it syncs all the drum beats together, it makes the flow of the performance silky smooth, it creates this indescribable feeling in my heart, makes my heart beat with the drum. for so long we've heard that playing the score fast does not mean the performance is good but playing it to the tempo is.

tempo is such a basic thing in music. can we call ourselves musicians if we dont even know this basic element in music? even my uncle drumset instructor emphasizes on tempo. im sure that if we get to know some basic music theory, our 'music' will get closer to becoming music. but im afraid.. im afraid that we might get back to square one, trying to get a taste of drum beats so different from what we're playing right now, trying to learn how to play drums over again. im afraid it might be too time consuming but trust me, understanding music theory makes drumming a hundred times easier, only if you are willing to go through the 'trouble' to learn it. it might be hard for some but its definitely worth more than just ai zai your way through the score trying to play the correct stuff by luck.

i hope you(whoever that is) dont give up on it, dont say 'why must you make it so complicated? its just drum beats'

oh and i like this kind of performances. see, im so loving it now. now i dont feel like going for those commercial performances at all.
